I met Ramonia years back in my Brooklyn Tech HS days. We have grown a lot since then, created families, businesses and lots of chaos but one thing I’ve learned about her as an adult is that she is unapologetic about finding time for herself.

How long have you been practicing? Since I ended my marriage, about 8 years now.
Who or what introduced you to it? I realized I was not doing things for me so I decided to take some time for myself.
What is the best way for a beginner to get started? Are there low/no cost ways to getting started? You scan always start with treating yourself from home. No need to go to the spa or the salon. You tube is a great for teaching yourself new things.
What kind of personality do you think benefits from this type of practice? Type A personalities need to learn how to relax.
It’s not being selfish taking care of your needs as well as others.
How often do you practice? I try to take time for myself daily- either before my children wake up or after they go to sleep. The salon is bi weekly.
Where do you practice? In my living room or at the stylist house
Is this something you can enjoy with others or do you prefer the solitude? I prefer to do somethings on my own.
How does this practice make you better? My self care relaxes me and brings me back to where I need to be to deal with my family and my business.
Did you grow up witnessing your mother, aunties or any women in your life consistently taking time to do something just for them? Yes, every other Saturday was the hairdresser
What would you like for your future daughter, god daughters or nieces to have learned from you in regards to self care? I want them to learn that it is important to love yourself. It’s not being selfish taking care of your needs as well as others.
