This morning, 12am Solange dropped “A Seat At The Table,” described as “a project on identity, empowerment, independence, grief and healing.” She also created a 112 page digital book chockfull of photos, poems, essays, quotes and lyrics. I gave it a spin on Spotify and am loving it right off the back. I am getting my entire life right now.
This weekend I will indulge and dig deeper into the book and really spend time drinking in the lyrics. Many of the lyrics aptly describe my feelings about being beautifully black and the pain that comes from this very same beauty from America. She touches on how we feel about folks wanting to touch our hair, being labeled MAD the violence directed against us.
There is some really good stuff here. I will be back next week with a complete review. Take a listen and let it soothe and empower you this weekend.
