I’ve had conversations of sisters online and have been chatting it up with my girls and collectively so many of us are stressing ourselves out about this weekend’s March. I’ve heard so many thoughts and questions to the tune of “Will my feminism card be revoked if I don’t join in?” “Am I supporting a march full of folks who didn’t support me?” “Will I miss being a part of history if I stay home?” “I’m super excited about going but my girls aren’t so much.”
You don’t owe anybody a reason as to why you are choosing to march or not. Will your soul sing out if you attend the march? If your answer is yes I hope you bought your bus ticket and are planning what to wear to be comfortable. If it just doesn’t feel right then send a prayer up for the safety of those marching and carry on with your Saturday. Period. It’s that easy.
If you have been doing the work in your community, making yourself available, making the necessary calls and doing even the tiniest things to make things better for yourself, family and community that’s what matters. If you haven’t been doing any work and you feel like this may be the catalyst to your becoming more active in this fight then go.
(God willing as the old folks say, can’t take any days for granted) Life will go on regardless of what you decide. The revolution is bigger than one day so don’t exert all of your energy toward making the decision. It’s about self-care first. Do what is right for you and that very small act is revolutionary in its self.
